The operating mechanism forms the heart of the disconnector since it is a mechanical device used in an electrical application — it determines the operational ease, makes maintenance easy, and ensures smooth operation even when the time lapsed since the last operation is in order of years. 

The main types and features of our operating mechanism are: 

1. Motor operated mechanism

  • Rigorous testing of each Motor and Gear combination at a simulated load before fitment in the assembly
  • Careful choice of material for making the gears to ensure minimum wear and tear over time
  • Castle lock & key arrangement to ensure authenticity of the operator
  • Electrical safety with use of MCBs instead of fuse and switch combination
  • Option of using universal joints to ensure good alignment and easy installation 

2. Gear-only mechanism

  • Gear made out of material with least wear and tear over time
  • Careful choice of gear ratio to ensure smooth operation
  • Each gear assembly is checked at simulated loads before final assembly

3. Operating rods, down pipes, linkage assemblies

  • 360 degree swivel joints given using eye bolts at every linkage assembly
  • Only higher class GI pipes chosen to ensure strength
  • Adjustable bolts to cover up for any installation errors

The following routine tests are carried out on every disconnector:

  • Temperature rise test

  • Power frequency test

  • Resistance of main circuit test

  • Megger value test for insulators

  • Load bearing capability of the support structure

  • Mechanical operating test
